A Tasty, Healthy Chocolate Treat For Breakfast

Well a good day has to start with a good breakfast. My favourite breakfast which I have every day is porridge. I understand this may not sound very tasty, but the way I make it it is very tasty. Here is my ingredients:

  • A bag of oats (I like Mornflake super fast oats)
  • Take a handful of raisins
  • Jar of chocolate spread
  • Pot of golden syrup
  • Vegetarian milk or soya milk (I like Alpro Soya Milk)
Kitchen utensils required:
  •  hob, gas or electric
  •  a small non-stick saucepan
  • wooden spoon used for cooking
  • dishwasher and microwave safe bowl
  • a spoon
  • a microwave
Here's what to do:
  1. Place a handful of raisins in the bottom of the saucepan.(You may prefer to use some other dried fruit or even add some fresh fruit or berries when the porridge is cooked.)
  2. Put the desired amount of oats in the saucepan with the raisins.
  3. Cover the oats with milk.
  4. Now heat up the mixture on a medium heat. Remember to stir very frequently with the wooden spoon or if you wish constantly. This should only take a couple of minutes. It is important to keep a close eye on it whilst you are bringing it to the boil as it may stick and burn on the bottom.
  5. When the oats start to boil and thicken, reduce the heat, simmer for 1-2 minutes and add a little more milk to taste for your desired consistency. Some people like a thick consistency to porridge oats whilst others like more thinner oats.
  6. Whilsst simmering, if desired add a little golden syrup, which again is to taste.
  7. Add some chocolate spread if you wish. I like dark chocolate spread or milk chocolate hazelnut spread.
  8. When porridge is desired consistency, remove from heat and spoon into a microwavable bowl.
  9. I like to make sure my porridge is nice and warm throughout so I heat it up for a couple of seconds in the microwave so it is nice and warm.
  10. Remove from microwave with care as bowl may be slightly hot.
  11. Tuck in to a tasty breakfast.
I love to have this breakfast every day. It keeps me full for hours. You can have a big bowl or small bowl of it, whatever you feel like. Why not try Alpro Soya milk as an alternative to milk. It does not contain hormones from animals and is full of protein and fortified with calcium and vitamins. Try using skimmed milk instead of semi skimmed milk or cream milk. Raisins are a good source of calcium and iron, help the body to absorb calcium, are good for bone health, are good for teeth and for the eyes.

If I want something even quicker, then I use Quaker Oats Oatso Simple Golden syrup microwavable porridge which cooks in two minutes. Then I add aa few raisins when it is finished.

And there you have it, a good start to the day.
